Final 2014/2015 Community Fridays for a Cause will be this Friday, April 10

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children will be the recipient of our donations this week.

Thirty years ago, police could enter information about stolen cars, stolen guns, even stolen horses into the FBI's crime database – but not stolen children. Several tragic cases began to awaken the nation to the problem that there was no coordinated national system for addressing missing children cases.  The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC ) opened in 1984 to serve as the nation’s clearinghouse on issues related to missing and sexually exploited children. Today NCMEC is authorized by Congress to perform 22 programs and services to assist law enforcement, families and the professionals who serve them.

With better public awareness, training, laws and technology, the recovery rate of missing children has jumped from 62 percent in 1990 to more than 97 percent today. More long-term missing children are being recovered. Elizabeth Smart of Utah was recovered after nine months; Shawn Hornbeck of Missouri after four years; Jaycee Dugard of California after 18 years; Carlina White of New York after 23 years; and Marx Barnes of Hawaii after 34 years.

The funds raised by NCMEC's New York office are used to provide local case assistance and spearhead prevention education services in the state of New York.  If you would like more information regarding this organization, please visit www.missingkids.com/newyork <https://www.missingkids.com/newyork> .

Help support the work of New York regional office in Rochester, NY by making a generous donation, in exchange for the opportunity to dress casually.  Casual dress can be defined in a variety of ways, please check with your department leadership to define parameters acceptable for your office.  We encourage MCC gear and school colors whenever appropriate.

Donations will be collected in each department and donation envelopes are being delivered.  All checks should be made out to National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.  Please bring the donation envelopes to Jodee Biller in the Controller’s Office, 6-110 by 4:00 pm on Friday.  If you are not located at the Brighton Campus, please call extension 2104 to make arrangements for the envelopes to be delivered to the Brighton Campus.
