Media Report About Launch of Early College High Schools initiative

News 10NBC, YNN Rochester and WXXI-AM 1370 News attended an event at MCC on Sept. 16 as SUNY and EdWorks officially launched the statewide Smart Scholars Early College High Schools initiative.

Early College High Schools provide high school students with an opportunity to accelerate their high school courses while earning college credit. The purpose is to make college a reality for students who are at risk of dropping out of high school and are largely underrepresented in college. It is designed to increase high school graduation rates as well as college completion rates among underserved students.

Monroe Community College is a partner with the Rochester City School District and the nonprofit Asia Society for the Rochester Early College International High School.

The Smart Scholars initiative, which will serve over 2,700 students, has been made possible through the generous grant to the New York State Board of Regents and the State Education Department from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
