St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center provides health care and counseling to the uninsured and under-insured, primarily through volunteer doctors, nurses, counselors and other medical professionals. When I was introduced to the center in 1999, I was immediately impressed by the passion and camaraderie of the staff and volunteers. Their spirit was infectious, drawing me and others in. I stay involved, in part, because I have health care choices and it stops me cold that others do not. I have the luxury of regular dental check ups and physicals. For too many people, seeking medical care means going without something else. It shouldn't be that way.
