Monroe County Approves Capital Improvement Plan, Downtown Campus Recommendation

On Tuesday evening, the Monroe County Legislature voted 18-11 to approve the County’s 2013-2018 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) that includes MCC's new downtown campus at Kodak.

Distinguished Professor Karen Morris (Business Administration/Economics) and Brighton Student Government President Michael Gray spoke in favor of the Kodak site during the public comment session preceding the vote. Please join me in thanking them for their support. Both highlighted the ways in which the Kodak site supports student success, with Michael Gray emphasizing that he speaks for 18,000 MCC students who unanimously supported the Board's recommendation to move to Kodak.

The Legislature’s approval of the CIP is an important step in the process of securing our new campus location at Kodak. The County is working to complete the required State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) process. Once the SEQR process is completed, and if it goes well, the final step will be a vote to approve the bonding. That vote will most likely occur this fall.

Monroe County’s investment in our new downtown campus is an investment in our students and our entire community. If you have any questions, please contact Executive Dean Pete Otero <eotero@monroecc.edu> or the College and Community Relations Office <marcom@monroecc.edu>.
