Monroe Community College mourns the passing of Assistant Professor Emerita Pierna “Perry” C. Basile, Business Administration/Economics, on February 4, 2010 at the age of 91.

After raising her children and running a small tax preparation business, Mrs. Basile joined MCC in 1972 as a part-time adjunct assistant professor in the Secretarial Sciences Department. By 1978 she became a full-time instructor of business administration where she was known for her accounting and tax acumen. In 1979 she was promoted to assistant professor of business administration. She was also known for being readily available to her students and hosting “help sessions” for her accounting students in her office. She was a member of the National Association of Public Accountants, Empire State Association of Public Accountants, Business Educators Association, Camp Fire Girls, Inc. Executive Committee, and the Guardian Angels School Board. She also held a “Treasury Card” which identified her as a registered tax preparation practitioner with the Internal Revenue Service. She retired from the college in 1984.

Prior to joining MCC, Mrs. Basile taught business and secretarial science courses for the Clyde, Greece and Lima central school districts as well as Nazareth Academy. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in secretarial science and business education respectively from Nazareth College.

She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Basile, and her brother and sister. She is survived by her seven children: John, Mary, Anne Marie, Thomas, Nicholas, Joseph and Rosanne; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were held on February 7 at St. Anne Church in Rochester. At the family’s request, contributions may be made to the St. Anne Church Memorial Fund in her memory. To email a message of condolence, please visit her guestbook at "https://www.millerfuneralhomes.com".
