Peter Monacelli is the Recipient of the 2014 Betty Strasenburgh Award for Activism

MCC alum and Visual and Performing Arts adjunct Peter Monacelli is the recipient of the 2014 Betty Strasenburgh Award for Activism. The award was one of two Reshaping Rochester Awards given by the Rochester Regional Community Design Center at a special luncheon December 2, 2014.

As one of 17 finalists, Peter was noted “for his role in executing over 250 revitalization projects in the Rochester region, including the renovation of 17 houses in the South Wedge Neighborhood along Hamilton Street. Other projects include work on The Little Theater, and on buildings in the West Main Street area.  Peter has taken on projects with impossible budgets and oftentimes at reduced cost, producing outcomes that exhibit creativity, enthusiasm and skill. His personal belief in the value of historic and vernacular buildings in neighborhoods, has provided a significant contribution to the revitalization of Rochester’s urban heritage.”

Peter has been a carpenter/contractor for most of his adult life and is still active in the field as the President and CEO of Monacelli Enterprises, Inc. . Though he discovered his passion for art and design later in life he has pursued that field with equal enthusiasm and many of his works are on display across the campus. Peter was a 2012 inductee into the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame.
