Food Drive for Student Food Cupboard

In alignment with the College’s mission and its emphasis on student success, the Support Staff Professional Development Committee is continuing its initiative to be the main source of support for the Student Food Cupboard which is located in the Peer Mentor Office.

The cupboard was initially started by Bette Bovenzi from the Campus Center and is used to help students who don’t have money for lunch or who need help getting through a few days with food.  The supply of food is not always stable.  Through our donations, we hope to ensure that the cupboard will be continually stocked so that food is always available for students in need. The distribution of food will continue to be managed by the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development.

To achieve this goal, the Committee will be sponsoring a food drive to fill the food cupboard with a plentiful stock of food for the new semester.  We also would accept cash donations which will be used to purchase $5.00 Sodexo lunch cards.

The food drive will take place the week of October 4 - 8.  Food can be dropped off at the following locations:  Dawn Quatro, Room 1-300; Jodee Biller, Room 6-110; Linda Crowner in the Dental Clinic, Room 7-201 or Anne Kirkpatrick, Room 4225 at DCC.  Cash donations should be given to Jodee Biller only.

Below is a list of suggested items to stock the Student Food Cupboard.

Peanut butter (single servings are nice)
Instant Oatmeal, Microwaveable Meals (not the refrigerated kind)
Fruit Cups, Granola Bars, Cheese and Crackers
Any non-perishables

We are very excited to give the Student Food Cupboard our long-term commitment and know that it will be very successful because of the College community’s generosity and genuine concern for our students.
