Kathy Lawton visits Cayuga Community College to serve as an External Review Committee Member

On Friday, March 20, Dr. Kathy Lawton, associate professor of biology, travelled to Cayuga Community College in Auburn, NY to join two other colleagues in reviewing CCC’s Liberal Arts A.S. degree program in Mathematics and Natural Sciences.  Serving with Dr. James Jacob, associate professor of biology at Tompkins-Cortland Community College and Dr. Anne Lincoln, associate professor of biology at North Country Community College, Kathy spent the afternoon engaged in conversations with Cayuga students, faculty and administrators, and participated in a formal summary review which Cayuga will be submitting to SUNY System Administration in partial fulfillment of their program review duties.

“It was a lot of time to commit to the effort, but it was also interesting to see how institutions other than MCC engage in assessment and program review,” Kathy noted.  “I think it is also important for us to set up a system of reciprocal service to other colleges, so that we can call on them to help us when it’s our turn to review our programs.”

Kathy is presently serving as the Discipline Assessment Liaison for the 2008-09 Natural Sciences SUNY Gen Ed assessment, and is also a member of the Faculty Senate’s Ad Hoc Committee on Assessment and Program Review.
