Correcting the Sunday Democrat and Chronicle

In its Sunday, July 29 edition, the Democrat and Chronicle erroneously reported that Rochester Police Department officers were on MCC’s Damon City Campus 784 times during the fiscal year that ended in June 2011. Most readers probably immediately recognized that as a preposterous number. Let me correct that information.

According to the Monroe Crime Analysis Center, the geographic area covered by these 784 visits includes the Liberty Pole, the interior of the Sibley Building and the external areas immediately surrounding the Sibley Building. According to the crime statistics reports that MCC prepares (as required by federal law and found on our web site), the Damon City Campus is virtually crime-free.

If you should have questions about the safety of any of our campuses, please do not hesitate to reach out to MCC Director of Public Safety David Moore, or access our crime statistics reports on our website at
www.monroecc.edu/depts/pstd/index.htm (Look for them under the Public Safety Department).
