2009 STEP Science Bowl a Success

The 2009 STEP Science Bowl, hosted by STEP programs at MCC and RIT, took place last Saturday, Jan. 31, at RIT.

The STEP Science Bowl was a regional event for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl. It featured 24 teams of high school students from groups historically underrepresented in science. Teams from New York’s Science & Technology Entry Program (STEP), Upward Bound, the Program for Rochester to Interest Students in Science and Math (PRIS2M), and the National Organization of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE) traveled from Albany, New York City, Buffalo and Syracuse to compete in the event.

The winning team, from the Syracuse STEP program, will represent the region at the National Science Bowl Finals in Washington, D.C. (April 30-May 5, 2009).  Other semifinalist teams included RPI STEP (second place), Wilson PRIS2M, and RIT STEP @ Rush Henrietta.

The Science Bowl would not have been a success without the assistance of many volunteers from MCC, RIT and the Rochester community.

The STEP Science Bowl was covered in several local media sources:
