Pratt Joins Men's Lacrosse Staff

The Monroe Community College men’s lacrosse program has added a big name in local lacrosse to its coaching staff.

Former West Irondequoit High School head coach John Pratt will join MCC as an assistant. Pratt, who has 37 years of experience coaching lacrosse, will be the offensive coordinator for the Tribunes.

“I’m very excited about working in the community college setting,” said Pratt, who won over 400 games at West Irondequoit. “It’s a great opportunity to work with kids from around the whole area and not just from my school district.”

Pratt took over the West Irondequoit varsity lacrosse program in 1978 and coached for 28 years.  He compiled a 431-113 record during his tenure, capturing 12 league championships and 11 Section V titles along the way.

Pratt’s teams played in 19 total sectional championship games and he was named Monroe County Coach of the Year seven times. He is the seventh-winningest high school coach in New York state and is one of only 11 in the nation with over 400 wins.

“Any time you hire a coach with over 400 wins at the high school level, it’s a plus for the program,” said MCC head coach Rocky Delfino. “Bringing Coach Pratt’s knowledge and respect for the game to MCC is exciting for myself and our players.”

The Tribunes went 15-3 last season, reaching the semifinals of the Region III tournament before falling to Herkimer County Community College. MCC will be gunning for its first regional title in 2007.
