Be the Match Bone Marrow Registry Drive

The Health Information Technology Club, Radiology Club, and SADHA will be hosting a bone marrow registry drive on Wednesday, February 15 in the Flynn Campus Center Atrium, from 10:00-3:00. Please come join the registry or make a donation to Be the Match. Every little bit helps! You could help save a life, just like other donors in our area.

Success Stories:

Christopher Costello, a young man from Webster, New York, who was suffering from leukemia and in need of a bone marrow transplant.  The donor drive saw over 1000 people from the Rochester community added to the Be The Match Registry. A donor match was found from an individual in Maine.  The transplant was successful and Christopher is now an outgoing 20 year old enjoying life to the fullest.  Untold others benefited from the 1000 people who registered that day.

Rochester City Councilman Adam McFadden buoyed by stem cell donation

In late fall 2003, Adams, 18, of the Bronx was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia. McFadden, who had joined the National Marrow  Donor Registry in 2000 during a recruitment drive at James Madison School of Excellence, turned out to be a match for the teen. In 2004, McFadden donated his blood stem cells to Adams, and the procedure was a huge success. The two met for the first time in March 2005, following the one-year waiting period, the time program rules require that donor and recipient must remain anonymous. They have been close ever since. "Playing a role in helping to extend Lamar's life was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said McFadden. "It's not every day that you know you can sacrifice a small piece of yourself to help someone live.
