President's Wednesday Message

In the coming weeks, we will have a number of opportunities to celebrate the inspiring successes of our students, culminating with MCC’s commencement.  The end of a semester is one of the busiest times on campus, but I do hope you will make time to attend these events.  Your presence makes them more meaningful for our students and their families—and it also underscores the role you played in fostering these achievements.

In our annual season of celebration, I sometimes reflect on the first few lines of Christina Rossetti’s poem, “Up-Hill”:

Does the road wind up-hill all the way?

 Yes, to the very end.

Will the day’s journey take the whole long day?

From morn to night, my friend.

You have been with our students for the entire up-hill journey, sometimes quite literally from morning through night.  Your teaching, advising, counseling, mentoring, coaching, guidance, generosity, tough love, understanding, and kindness combined with our students’ talents and drive to make this success possible.  I hope you will be there to celebrate with them when they reach the summit.

Most of the events are identified in the Daily Tribune, including a number of pinning ceremonies in health care, but allow me to highlight a few:

*         May 20: Student Engagement Awards Ceremony and Reception, 5:00 pm, Samuel J. Stabins Physical Education Complex

*         May 26: Academic Awards Ceremony and Reception, 4:00 pm, Samuel J. Stabins Physical Education Complex

*         June 2: Academic Achievement Honors Convocation, 3:00 pm, Theater

*         June 4: Commencement, 9:30 am, Blue Cross Arena

See you there.

Share your celebratory thoughts on the blog.
