I am sad to inform the college community that Professor Emeritus Dr. Raymond T. Ruff, Jr., formerly of MCC’s Business Administration/Economics Department, passed away on September 12, 2015 at the age of 84.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:00 am tomorrow, September 16, at the Church of the Assumption, 20 East Avenue, Fairport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the School of the Holy Childhood or the Raymond T. Ruff, Jr. Scholarship Fund at the Monroe Community College Foundation.

After graduating from Aquinas High School, Dr. Ruff served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954, achieving the rank of quartermaster. Following his military service, he earned an associate degree from Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of Commerce, followed by a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. John Fisher College, a master’s degree from the University of Rochester, and a doctorate from the University of Buffalo.

Dr. Ruff was hired by MCC President Dr. LeRoy V. Good as an instructor of business administration in 1962. As a founding faculty member, he helped open the doors to MCC for our community and the college’s first students. He served as dean of the Business Division and as a longtime chairperson of the Business Administration Department. He retired in 1995 after 33 years of service. He will be remembered for his warm sense of humor, positive attitude, and keen problem-solving skills. Dr. Ruff was instrumental in establishing the college’s annual Academic Achievement Convocation among other programs.

Dr. Ruff was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Clare, and daughter, Mary Therese. He is survived by his four sons, including Mike Ruff who teaches in MCC’s Business Administration Department, and 13 grandchildren.
