World-Premiere of Passiagio Protetto: Safe Passage


The Aug. 17 issue of The Jewish Ledger highlighted the world premeire of Passiagio Protetto: Safe Passage -- A Tribute to the Heroic Protection of Jews by Righteaous Italians During the Holocaust." The event will be presented by Nazareth College's Casa Italiana on Sept.17 at 4 pm in Nazareth College Arts Center's Callahan Theatre.

The Holocaust Genocide Studies Project (HGSP) at MCC is an event sponsor, along with the Roman Catholic Diocese, the Jewish Community Federation and the Italiian American Community Center. The event is co-chaired by Josephine and Simon Braitman, members of the HGSP's Advisory Board. Mr. Braitman also serves on the MCC Foundation's Board of Directors/Foundation Council.

The musical piece was commissioned by Frank P. Olveri, a local scholar and historian, to honor Italians who protected thousands of Jews during the Holocaust. The piece will be performed by a 30-piece orchestra and soloists. A photo exhibition from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum will also be on view in the arts center lobby.
