MCC Students Tend Community Garden
WHAT: Twenty-five college students will spend a day working in a community garden – and reflect on their civic participation – as part of a new program at Monroe Community College.
WHEN: 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2006
WHERE: Corner of Flint and Exchange streets, Rochester
DETAILS: Students in Monroe Community College’s Educational Opportunities Program will tend the Food Links Community Garden as part of a new co-curricular service-learning program. Typically, students participate in service-learning through academic courses. Through this co-curricular program, students participate in a project that meets a community need and then reflect on the experience to foster a sense of commitment to the community and build unity among participating members. Students can be members of a student club or organization, a departmental program (outside of the classroom) or any interested group. The project will develop student leadership and interpersonal skills while helping improve the neighborhood garden.
