Damon City Campus Executive Dean

TO: The College Community
FROM: R. Thomas Flynn, President
DATE: June 17, 2003

Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure of recommending to the Monroe Community College Board of Trustees Emeterio "Pete" Otero as executive dean of the Damon City Campus. The Trustees unanimously endorsed Pete's appointment.

We are very fortunate to have someone like Pete leading the Damon City Campus. He is experienced, having worked at Damon since the doors opened in 1992 and having served as interim executive dean since last September. He is rooted in the community, and believes in our vision of a vibrant and accessible downtown community college campus.

Pete came to MCC in 1982. During his 21-year tenure, he has served as assistant director and assistant dean of admissions, as well as dean of students at the Damon Campus. As executive dean, Pete administers the daily operations of the Damon City Campus and is responsible for the development, management, and fiscal oversight of the campus. He works closely with college leadership on programs, personnel and support activities for the campus and is also responsible for the management of the campus facility and support needs. He represents the campus to external constituencies.

Pete is involved extensively in downtown Rochester. He chairs the boards of the Ibero-American Action League, Inc. and the Rochester Public Library. He serves on the boards of the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation and Action for a Better Community, Inc. Additionally, he is involved in the Rochester City School District Benjamin Franklin High School Strategic Panel. His connections to Rochester leaders will serve DCC well.

Currently enrolled at SUNY Buffalo where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy, Pete earned a master's degree in counselor education from the SUNY College at Brockport and a bachelor's degree in psychology and Spanish from St. John Fisher College.

Please join me in congratulating and supporting Pete in his new role.
