Sgt. Knutowicz to Serve as MCC Public Safety Mental Health Liaison

The Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce that Sgt. Stanley Knutowicz will serve on the Monroe County Multi-Jurisdictional Crisis Intervention Task Force; a consortium of law enforcement professionals who meet bi-monthly to discuss mental hygiene procedures.  The goal of the task force is to establish sound policies and improve law enforcement practices when assisting individuals experiencing mental illness or emotional disturbance.

In his role, Sgt. Knutowicz will also coordinate with other MCC departments such as Health Services, Residence Life, and Counseling Services, as well as the Brighton and Rochester Police Departments, to ensure the proper handling of incidents, brought to the attention of Public Safety, where the NYS Mental Hygiene Law may be applicable.

Sgt. Knutowicz has served Monroe Community College in the Department of Public Safety since 2001.  He is one of five department officers who have received enhanced training focusing on law enforcement involvement and management of mental hygiene situations.

Questions regarding the Department of Public Safety’s procedures related to the New York State Mental Hygiene Law, or specific incidents occurring at MCC, may be referred to Sgt. Knutowicz at <mailto:sknutowicz@monroecc.edu>.
