President's Wednesday Message

Over the past year, MCC’s Self-Study Report has been disseminated to the College community, as has an Executive Summary of this document.  For the past few years, the Self-Study process has been an ongoing focus at events like All College Day and my Message to the College Community, and it was a topic in many department and division meetings.  In addition, during the writing process of the report, our Self-Study Co-Chairs Holly Wynne-Priesche and Bill Dunning solicited your feedback and included it in the final version.

At this point, some of you may be saying: “Enough about Middle States!”  However, we are also very aware how busy everyone is, and while our community may be aware of the Self-Study process, the details of report, the findings, and the recommendations and suggestions that—in the MSCHE spirit of continual improvement--we have given ourselves may not be as universally understood.

For this reason, over the next couple weeks in this space, I will be sharing the most significant aspects of the Self-Study and giving you a glimpse at areas likely to be of interest to the visiting team. You will also have opportunities next week to attend the MSCHE Forums hosted by Provost Andrea Wade at both Brighton and Damon.  Additionally, you should have been seeing short features on some of the MSCHE accreditation standards in the Daily Tribune; these have been authored by the MCC co-chairs of the standards.  The collective goal of this communications plan is to assure you are informed as we head into the team visit.  We will try to hit all key points, but if you have additional questions, I encourage you to reach out to Holly or Bill before the team arrives.

My appreciation goes to the 128+ members of the MCC Community who have worked so diligently on this process and all who assisted them in this work.  The quality of our College shines through in the report, as does the quality of their efforts.  My personal and professional gratitude also goes out to all of you: your talent and commitment builds and sustains the extraordinary MCC reflected in our Self-Study.  Thank you.

As always, feel free to share your thoughts on the blog.
