Simmons presents at New York Community College Trustees’ Conference

Hezekiah (Heze) N. Simmons, vice president, Administrative Services and George Anker, financial analyst, SUNY Administration, were co-presenters at the New York Community College Trustees’ (NYCCT) conference on Saturday, March 28.   This conference “The Trustee in Changing Times” was attended by college trustees and presidents of New York’s 30 community colleges.

Simmons and Anker’s subject was “Data and its use for Advocacy.”  This presentation illustrated the importance of the use of data in advocating for the 30 NYS community colleges.  Simmons and Anker shared community colleges’ data with the trustees on enrollment, state aid and sponsors’ contribution.  The data was displayed in a format that enabled easy comparison among the 30 community colleges.  One of the key data slides displayed was by each community college’s enrollment from among the 62 counties within the state.

The key message to the board of trustee’s members as well as the colleges’ leaders was that they must be armed with accurate data in addressing local, state and federal legislators on the need of the community colleges, particularly financial needs.
