African American Affinity Group

The African American Affinity Group had its first meet and greet in the home of Chief Diversity Officer Dr. Lloyd Holmes on Friday, January 27, 2017. Faculty, Staff and Administrators gathered and had vibrant dialogue about the mission and vision of the group as well as devised a calendar of events for the remainder of the Spring 2017 semester.

Their first group outing was this past Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Little Theater. The group viewed the film, “I Am Not Your Negro,” Raoul Peck’s Documentary of James Baldwin. A panel discussion followed the viewing, which included colleague and member of the African American Affinity Group, Professor Tokeya C. Graham, along with other community members: Community Director, David Shakes, Rochester Association of Black Journalist President, Richard McCullough and Radio Personality of What’s Going On, Nate Brown.

The African American Affinity Group is excited to develop and implement programming for the College community that highlights the experiences of African American faculty and staff. It is our goal to provide a safe space for fellowship, team building, and professional development and support.

Professor Melany J. Silas is the Chair of The African American Affinity Group and if you would like more information, you may contact her via email at <mailto:msilas@monroecc.edu>
