Update on Donations for Military in Iraq

Thanks so much for all of the students, faculty and staff that are assigning the Travel Club and Phi Theta Kappa with our collection for the armed men and women.  Some additional information has become available, and we thought you would enjoy hearing where these items are actually going.  The collection is for the military at Balad Air Force Base in Iraq.  This is one of the largest Military bases in Iraq, and is located in Northern Iraq approximately 68 kilometers North of Baghdad.

All of the donated items are going directly to the wounded military men and women and in some cases the military staff who take care of them.  20,000 personnel are assigned there, and houses a large field hospital as well.  This effort is being done with full cooperation of the staff at the field hospital.  This hospital is where wounded military are taken to treat since this facility has several operating rooms, trauma centers, etc.  When injured military are brought in, they do not have personal items with them such as shampoo, socks, underwear, t-shirts, etc.  Supplies such as towels and laundry detergent are used by the hospital staff.

This was the original list: (ongoing needs)

New socks both ankle and regular (white)

New or used DVD’s or CD’s
