Upward Bound Program Director Interviewed

Carmelita Brown-Wallace, director of the TRiO MCC Upward Bound Math and Science Program, was interviewed by WXXI News reporter Carlet Cleare on March 26 for a radio segment on the new initiative.

Forty-nine Northeast College Preparatory high school students are participating in the program at MCC this year . The program helps high school students who are financially disadvantaged and/or whose parents have not attained a degree prepare for successful transition to college with the goal of completing academic programs that lead to careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

The program aims to increase the number of Rochester-area students completing high school, entering college ready for college-level coursework, and achieving degrees in pursuit of high-tech, in-demand careers.

Students receive enrichment and supplemental instruction and hands-on learning in core subjects; tutoring, mentoring, college preparation; and field experiences and volunteer opportunities in the community. The Damon City Campus-based program is funded for five years through a $1.25 million U.S. Department of Education grant.
