President's Wednesday Message

Last week, MCC moved forward another step in our Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) accreditation reaffirmation process when we hosted Dr. Quintin Bullock, President of the Community College of Allegheny County. Dr. Bullock will chair the peer review team that will visit MCC in March. While at MCC, Dr. Bullock met with

* MCC’s Self-Study Co-Chairs
* Self-Study Steering Committee
* Faculty Senate Executive Committee
* Student Leaders from Brighton and Damon City Campuses
* President’s Staff
* Members of the Board of Trustees

We also provided him with an executive summary of the report created by a member of the MSCHE self-study team, Dr. Kristen Love, that you may find useful (attached).

Dr. Bullock commended MCC for the quality and thoroughness of the self-study and for the diligence of the self-study team. He has advised our MSCHE Liaison, Dr. Ellie Fogarty, that his preliminary visit to MCC went well. He commented on the teamwork and strengths our self-study demonstrated, noted the depth of background and supporting documentation included in the draft he reviewed, and advised that his findings suggest no concerns for the upcoming team visit.

The positive impression that MCC’s self-study and his visit left on Dr. Bullock resulted from the work of many. At various points throughout the past academic year, our self-study process has engaged the entire campus community: our dedicated co-chairs; the more than 150 faculty, staff, and students who diligently served on the steering committee and study teams; the many members of the MCC community who were interviewed, who provided documentation and evidence, and who told the College’s story of a commitment to renewal and improvement; the editors who worked to bring the writing of dozens into a consistent voice; and more. Thank you!

My gratitude also goes out to everyone who took the time over the past few weeks to read MCC’s Middle States Self-Study and send feedback to our co-chairs via the survey form. Your input will help us make the document even stronger.

What questions do you still have about the Middle States process? Share them on the blog or forward them to our co-chairs: Holly Wynn-Preische or Bill Dunning.
