On Saturday, March 20 the MCC Tribunes women's basketball team captured the 2004 NJCAA Div. II national title. The tournament was hosted by Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan.
The Lady Tribunes finished the season 28-2. The team entered the tournament as the third seed which allowed it a first round bye. The Lady Tribunes played Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College in the championship game and defeated their opponent 63-41.
The following players were named to the All Tournament Team: Ashley McMillen, Renee Taylor, Tara Walker and Dezara Williams. Taylor was also named the tournament's MVP. Head Coach Tim Parrinello was named Coach of the National Tournament. This is his second national title in his eight years as head coach.
A recognition event for the team is being planned.
