MCC Counselor Presents Workshop at ACPA Annual Conference


E. Jamall Watkins, Counseling and Advising, presented at the Annual American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Conference in Baltimore, Maryland.  His session was entitled, “Community College Institute:  A Doorway to Success for African-American and Latino Males.”  The Doorway to Success initiative is designed to enhance success rates of African-American and Latino males enrolled at MCC and is housed on both the Brighton and Damon City Campuses.  The focus of this initiative is a holistic approach to assist students in reaching their full potential in the classroom and the community.  It is aimed at increasing participant graduation rates.  The workshop examined the history, the challenges and the successes of this initiative, in addition to the various resources and methods utilized to enhance student success.
