Sherry Tshibangu Lends Voice to Support Rochester International Women’s Day

Assistant Professor Sherry Tshibangu (Business Administration/Economics) served as mistress of ceremonies for the 2nd annual 2010 Rochester International Women’s Day Celebration on March 7. More than 400 people joined in the celebration held at the Good Luck Restaurant in Rochester.

International Women’s Day has been celebrated in various parts of the world for almost 100 years and recognizes the,
* importance of ending the discrimination of women throughout the world.
* contributions of women in strengthening international peace and security.
* achievements of women regardless of social class, ethnicity, or political persuasion.
* untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.

Distinguished Professor Karen Morris (Business Administration/Economics), in her role as Brighton Town Judge, issued a proclamation on behalf of the Town  of Brighton -- proclaiming March 8th as International Women’s Day.

According to the Rochester International Women’s Day Web site
https://www.riwd.org/, International Women’s Day recognizes “the fact that securing peace and social progress and the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms require the active participation, equality, and development of women, and to acknowledge the contribution of women to the strengthening of international peace and security. It’s a day when women unite, inspire, and mobilize for meaningful personal and global change.”
