Passing of Ruth Forsyth


I regret to inform you that Ruth Forsyth, professor emerita, passed away on June 22, 2004.

Ruth retired from MCC in 1987 after teaching sociology for more than 25 years. When the sociology department was formed in 1970, she became the department's first chair. In 1973, she was elected by her fellow faculty members as chairperson of Academic Governance, the College's faculty organization. Ruth also served the College as a member of the MCC Foundation Board of Directors. In 1986, she was the recipient of MCC's Dr. Wesley T. Hanson Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Donald; her three sons, Scott (Laureen), George, and Mark (Diane); five grandchildren; a brother; and several nieces.

A memorial service will be held Monday, July 5, 2 p.m., at the Klem Road United Church of Christ, Webster. Donations in her memory can be made to the Monroe Community College Foundation, 228 East Main Street, Rochester, NY 14604 or to the Town of Irondequoit Public Library, 2180 East Ridge Road, Rochester, NY 14622.
