Santos Participates in Round Table, Helps to Create Bridges to Hispanic Community


Joann Santos, director of CSTEP and site coordinator for Bridges programs, participated in a panel in the Democrat and Chronicle (D&C) roundtable discussion on the on the coverage of the Hispanic community. The purpose of this roundtable was to obtain feedback from community leaders as to how the D&C reflects the diversity of the Hispanic community in its coverage. Panel members included the president of the Hispanic Business Association, vice president of the Chili Lyons Club, RCSD director of Hispanic Curriculum and Community Outreach, Wegmans director of Training and Development, representatives from Nazareth College, MCC, and individual businesses. Discussions included creating bridges between D&C and the Hispanic community, creating cultural competency of the Hispanic community within the D&C, and creating an “ownership” attitude of the D&C among the Hispanic community. The panel members will reconvene within a year to evaluate the implementation and progress of the recommendations provided to the D&C.
