President's Wednesday Message

For this message, I’m proudly donning my black and gold boa and rallying the college around MCC’s annual Alumni Week and Homecoming.

Over the past 50 years and for almost a half a million alumni, MCC has made a true and lasting difference.  Every place I go, I see the impact of the college and hear stories about MCC’s ability to improve the lives of our current and past students.  This afternoon, following a speech at the Gates-Chili Chamber, I encountered a now familiar scene:  community members waiting to share their own wonderful success stories.  Children, sisters, uncles, parents, neighbors, and even the audience members themselves have better futures today because of our college and *your* efforts.  Each story is a gift that honors the work we do each day, and they are priceless.  So, when the opportunity comes along once a year to celebrate our amazing alumni, we need to seize it.

I encourage you to join in the celebration of our alumni and MCC by participating in one or more of the many scheduled events that run from September 21 to October 1.  I’ve pulled out a few of my favorites, but you can find the complete list on the
MCC Foundation/Alumni Affairs web page.  There is truly something for everyone.  Here are my highlights:

September 21, Child Care Center 20th Anniversary Celebration, 10:30 to 11:30 am, at the Guon Child Care Center.

September 23, Spirit Day, Faculty vs. Students Basketball Game, Noon to 1:00 pm, on Monagan Court (Gym).

September 24, 5th Annual  5K Walk/Run for Scholarships, Registration Begins at 10:00 am, Parking Lot G.

September 26, 50th Anniversary Community Photo, Noon, South Quad on Brighton Campus (wear black and gold!).

For a half a century, MCC has been fulfilling our community’s promise, and our own college community has never been stronger nor more important.   So, break out your black and gold: it’s time to show Tribune Pride!

What’s your favorite alumni story?
Share it on the web.
