Dr. Emeterio Otero Receives Recognition from City of Rochester

Please join me in congratulating Damon City Campus Executive Dean Dr. Emeterio Otero, who was recognized Friday by the City of Rochester for his contributions to the community and his impact on Latino students.

Dr. Otero received the surprise honors at City Hall prior to his remarks at the First Latino Student College Fair.

Mayor Thomas Richards and Councilwoman Jackie Ortíz (both shown with Dr. Otero in photo below) read a proclamation recognizing Dr. Otero for his community involvement, leadership and impact on Latino youth.

The city also named a youth volunteer award after Dr. Otero and announced the recipient of the inaugural award following the proclamation presentation. The Dr. Emeterio M. Otero Latino Youth Volunteer Award recognizes Latino students in Monroe County, including those in their first year of college, for their volunteerism and community involvement. The inaugural recipient is Elizbeth Rivera, a senior at Monroe High School (shown in second photo below).

Dr. Otero has played many important roles at MCC over the years, and I am delighted that his outstanding work has been recognized.

Photos were provided by the City of Rochester's Communications Bureau.
