President's Wednesday Message

Last week, I referred to some of the results from the recent communications survey.  This week, I wanted to respond to a few comments from responders that asked some version of the following:  “Could you share your vision for MCC?”  A few months ago, I wrote up a draft “vision” document to share with the vice presidents and invited them to share it with their divisions.  I know that some of them did, so the contents of this week’s message may look a bit familiar to you.  But, it’s clear that the document didn’t circulate to everyone.  However, even if you’ve not seen it before, the themes should be familiar.  Essentially, these are the thoughts that helped shape my All College Day presentation, framed the Message to the College Community, guided the recent changes to the organizational structure, and wove throughout my inauguration speech.  Here it is . . .

Monroe Community College is an extraordinary and dynamic learning community committed to excellence, achievement, and innovation.

To turn this vision into a lived reality, MCC

·         Serves students in a manner that reflects their goals and aspirations.

·         Puts student learning and success at the forefront of all activities.

·         Sets high expectations for student performance in and out of the classroom.

·         Empowers faculty and staff to take informed risks, be creative and collaborative, and lead the way to student success.

·         Creates a culture of inquiry, evidence, assessment, improvement, and celebration.

·         Provides physical and virtual environments that promote constructive informal and formal engagement in learning.

·         Respects and embraces diversity in all its forms as a source of strength and a crucible for ideas.

·         Develops meaningful, transformative, and sustainable connections with the larger communities—local to global—that we impact and that, in turn, impact us.

·         Constructs and advances partnerships to promote the economic development of the region and the workforce prospects for our students.

·         Seizes opportunities today that set the stage for the future.

·         Allocates resources effectively and efficiently to honor its commitments and priorities while being fiscally responsible.

What are your thoughts?  Does this vision reflect yours?  Share your ideas and comments on the
blog.
