Lady Tribunes off to districts

The MCC women's basketball team will take to the road this weekend to participate in the District C Tournament at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, NY.

The Tribunes (18-7) will face Vincennes University (IN) at 6 p.m. Friday evening.  The winner will face host Globe Institute at 1 p.m. on Sunday.  The winner will advance to the NJCAA Division I national tournament in Salina, KA, March 18-22.

It has been a tale of two seasons for MCC.  A grueling schedule early on left Monroe with a 4-6 record on Dec. 1.  But the Tribunes won 14 of their last 15 games to close the regular season, including 11 in a row from Jan. 8 through Feb. 14.

Brittany Hilliard (Washington, D.C./Theodore Roosevelt) will be a key player for Monroe this weekend.  The 6-0 freshman guard averages a team-high 20.5 points per game.  She also registers more than five rebounds and two steals per contest.

MCC will also rely heavily on its post players.  Sophomore forwards Caila Desroches (Oyster Bay, NY/John Glenn) and Krissy Rosario (Atlantic City, NJ/Absegami) combine to average 20.1 points and 15.9 rebounds per game, while freshman Natasha Smalls (Harlem, NY/St. Michael's Academy) pulls down a team-high 10.9 boards per contest.
