Melany J. Silas Selected for NILD Leaders Program


Instructor of Health Melany J. Silas (Health and Physical Education), will participate in the National Institute for Leadership Development's Leaders program in early May.

Melany was selected for her professional abilities, interest in advancement in higher education and her project proposal to design and implement an associate’s degree program in leadership education. During the program, Melanys will be mentored by Vice President of Academic Affairs Janet J. Glocker, Ph.D.

After earning two master’s degrees in counseling and human development and divinity from the University of Rochester and Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School respectively, Melany joined MCC in 2002. She is recognized for the variety of wellness programs she continues to develop and lead at MCC, including the annual Women’s Health and Wellness Conference and Black HIV/Aids Awareness Day. She also serves the community as an associate minister at St. Luke Tabernacle Community Church and committee chairperson for the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  She has authored two books, Spiritual Pieces: Poetry for Different Seasons of Life and Wellness Within: Nuggets of Wisdom for Emotional Wellbeing.

The National Institute for Leadership Development is internationally recognized for its visionary, holistic programs that produce leaders who effectively challenge assumptions, eliminate barriers and create new pathways to successful solutions. The year-long Leaders program, designed to enhance the skills participants need to assume major decision making roles in their career field, includes institutional practice in supervisory and human relations skills, planning and budgeting, and organization transformation.
