MCC and Governor Cuomo's Economic Development Initiative

Over the last few years we’ve been working strategically to solidify our seat at this region’s economic development decision-making table. Yesterday, we provided the table.

That Governor Cuomo chose to launch the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council at MCC sends a clear message that MCC plays a significant role in developing the regional economy. Few entities are as attuned and adaptable to the region’s changing workforce needs as MCC and our ability to meet those needs is increasingly recognized and valued. I could not have been more proud yesterday to host the nearly 300 business and community leaders who turned out to hear the Governor’s vision for economic development and to be one of the 21 individuals invited to serve on the Council.

MCC’s role in the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council will extend beyond yesterday’s launch and my service on the Council. The Governor’s office has turned to the State University of New York, seeking to tap the deep expertise in our ranks. My thanks go out to John Striebich, chair of the Business Administration/Economics Department, and Kristen Fragnoli, interim dean of the Division of Liberal Arts, for their willingness to serve as facilitators for Council meetings. The College also will be providing some logistical support for these meetings.

Finally, let me thank the many departments who worked so closely with the Governor’s team to ensure that yesterday’s event was a success: Building Services, Campus Events, College and Community Relations, Facilities, Instructional Technologies, and Public Safety. The Governor’s team leaders could not say enough positive things about the support, flexibility and professionalism they encountered from the entire MCC team. Thank you to all for representing MCC so well.
