MCC Athletic Program Wins Prestigious NATYCAA Cup

The Monroe Community College Athletic program was awarded the Pepsi NATYCAA Cup in the NJCAA Scholarship Division after a stellar 2005-2006 year that included four national championships.

The Pepsi NATYCAA Awards are given to recognize overall athletics program excellence by two-year colleges at the national level.  Dr. Susan Salvador, Vice President of Student Services at MCC, and Murph Shapiro, Athletic Director, represented Monroe Community College at an awards ceremony in New Orleans June 19-20.

The top three colleges in each division (NJCAA Scholarship, NJCAA non-scholarship, and State Associations) at the end of the school year receive a beautiful trophy at the awards luncheon.  The top three schools also receive a cash award for their institution's general scholarship fund in the amount of $2,500 for first place and $1,000 for second and third place.

MCC finished tied for third in the NJCAA Scholarship Division a year ago.

The Tribune athletic program recently wrapped up the most successful year in the college's illustrious history.  MCC captured four national championships during the 2005-2006 school year, winning in women's soccer, women's basketball, women's softball, and men's golf.  It was the second straight title for the women's soccer team and the third straight for women's basketball.  The softball and golf teams each won their first national championships.

This is the third year of the Pepsi NATYCAA Awards Program.  The National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators is the national professional organization of all two-year college athletic administrators from throughout the United States.

Established in 1987, NATYCAA is the only professional organization that represents all two-year institutions of higher education in the United States.
