STEM - Engineering Science Advisement Institute: Now Accepting Faculty Applications!

The School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), in collaboration with the Engineering Science and Physics Department (ESP), is excited to announce its first ever advisement institute. The institute, hosted on MCC's Brighton Campus, June 15, 2018, 8:30am - 4pm, is a mix of interactive workshops and hands-on practice designed to prepare faculty to successfully advise Engineering Science pre-program pathway students. By the end of the institute faculty will be able to:

Demonstrate a working knowledge of Engineering Science majors within the School of STEM and articulate a pathway to those majors.

Discuss Engineering related programs including 2-year career (Engineering Technologies) and 4-year transfer opportunities.

Implement advisement practices including but not limited to pre-requisites, Math and English course placements, Science pre-requisites, course sequencing, and STEM terminology.

Articulate the value of advisement relationships including developmental principles and appreciative advising practices.

Utilize MCC technologies, such as Degree Works, myMCC, Banner self-service, and electronic catalog effectively in advisement sessions.

Identify and utilize campus and online resources to answer student advisement questions.

Identify ways to effectively engage ESP pre-program pathway students in the advisement and career development process.
