2-for-1 Admission at the Glass Show Sept. 16 & 17

If you're looking for something to do this weekend -- and get a deal in the bargain -- why not check out the local glass show, which is the last of its kind in Western New York.

As a member of the MCC community, students, alumni, and employees are being offered two for the price of one admission again this year at the annual Depression Glass show. The event sponsor, the Depression Glass Club of Greater Rochester, wants everyone -- especially art and interior design students -- to have the chance to learn more about this iconic American art form.

MCC community members are able to get two admission tickets for $5.00, and only one of the two people needs to have an MCC connection, so bring a friend or family member and make an afternoon of it.

The "2017 Vintage Glass & Collectibles Show & Sale" runs this weekend at the Eisenhart Auditorium of the Rochester Museum and Science Center, 657 East Avenue.

  • Saturday, Sept. 16, from 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The event will feature many kinds of glassware that was produced as a colorful antidote for the hardships of the Depression. This glassware is not only attractive, but is also still useful. (Did you know that some vintage glassware can actually go safely in the dishwasher?)

The show will feature displays of glassware used in holiday settings, and the sale will include something for everyone: practical glass kitchenware, elegant glassware and glass art pieces, as well as china, pottery, linens and silverware of the era.

An educational program about some of the more famous glass manufacturers (including the Fenton glass company) and their varied products is set for 1:00 both Saturday and Sunday.

Heirloom glass identification is available, so attendees are welcome to bring in a few pieces of their antique glass to be examined by experts at the show. Refreshments will also be available, and parking is free.
