TCC: Congratulations to Instructional Development Stipend Winners!

In an effort to support reflective practice in teaching, the college supports short-term faculty innovation projects through summer Instructional Development Stipends (IDS). Congratulations to Erin Nelson (BIO) and Lisa Flick (BIO) for their strong innovative proposals!

Erin will be creating a new OER lab manual for BIO 156. Lisa will be creating both a BIO 155 pre-assessment tool on Blackboard and an adaptive online review module for students to refresh pre-requisite material in the first weeks of class. Both of the funded projects had these attributes in common:

  • Clear and specific evidence about the impact of a problem that affects students
  • Proposed project will impact a large number of students
  • Proposed time spent was clearly defined
  • Proposed project could be a model for other instructors/departments
  • Clear criteria for success
  • Had done preliminary preparation during the year or were planning to prepare for the project in June
  • Written proposal was clearly communicated

Please expect another call for IDS proposals next January. If you are considering applying, we recommend gathering data during the fall and spring to demonstrate a clear need for whatever you propose. In the spring, we intend to have a writing session in the TCC, where prospective applicants can share ideas and ask questions of previous winners.

Sincere thanks to all of the applicants from the whole IDS committee!
