Degree Works Advising Notes are here!

The Integrated Advising Board has updated the Degree Works Notes tab. With these enhancements, it is more important than ever for faculty and staff who advise to capture notes in Degree Works.

Why take notes?

  • Creates a record of student's advising contacts and advice provided.
  • Creates institutional memory.
  • Increases advisor efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Refreshes advisor memory prior to return visits and helps when planning next steps.
  • Communicates critical information to other College personnel.
  • Personalizes the advising experience.

Provost Wade and Vice President Holmes support the documentation of notes and reinforce this message in a joint statement. "Academic Advising plays a significant role in enrolling and retaining our students, and our ability to use Degree Works as a shared system for advising notes will provide a comprehensive record for each student. As we focus on student pathways to support our guided pathway model, it is important that each faculty and professional advisor use this tool after each advising session. The ability for advisors to have access to shared notes will ensure students have a complete understanding of their academic requirements and provide students with documented advisement to stay on their pathway. We are sure that this shared responsibility between Academic Services and Student Services will have a positive impact on our students."

Attached to this message, you find the Degree Works Advising Notes manual. Include in the manual are directions for inputting notes, code definitions and best practice guidelines. A video is coming soon and in person training will be available during this transition. If you have any immediate questions or concerns, please contact Sally Dingee x2410 or sdingee@monroecc.edu
