SUNY Chief Diversity Officer to Host Listening Sessions at MCC

SUNY Chief Diversity Officer Carlos Medina will visit MCC Monday, Oct. 16 and Tuesday, Oct. 17 to help the college community work through the recent racist tweet and our response to it. SUNY System Administration recommended him to us, as he has helped other SUNY colleges and universities that have been faced with acts of racism.

Mr. Medina will be holding listening sessions with representatives of the faculty, staff and administration, unions, academic department chairs, student governments, employees of color, and others. In order to facilitate conversation, Mr. Medina has asked that groups be limited to 12-15 people. Attendees will be identified and invited by the Faculty Senate, Faculty Association, CSEA, Support Staff Planning Council, Diversity Council, student governments and the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project. Following his visit, Mr. Medina will present his findings and offer recommendations.

Mr. Medina is charged with leading SUNY's efforts in promoting and advancing the University's diversity goals and ensuring that they are properly captured within all university policies and procedures. He provides leadership and strategic direction to SUNY campuses in connection with the recruitment and retention of faculty, staff and administrators who come from groups within our society that are underrepresented in higher education and in SUNY.

If you have any questions regarding his visit, please do not hesitate to contact me or Julianna Frisch, who is assisting with logistics.
