Passing of Retired Associate Professor Roger Bookout

I am sad to inform the MCC community that retired Associate Professor of Music Roger Bookout died on January 20, 2017.

Roger spent 30 years at MCC. Upon his retirement in 2000, colleagues noted that his greatest joy was seeing students transfer and succeed as music educators and performers. A world traveler who incorporated his cultural experiences into his classes, Roger was also known for his ability to make puns and often warned students on the first day of class that he would be "PUNishing them in the future."

Roger was a dedicated advisor of MCC's music majors. He judged countless MCC music student performances and often accompanied them on piano in recitals, auditions, and applied music juries. For many years, he served as event coordinator for MCC's intramural volleyball team and was a volunteer at Rochester City School District's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School. Roger was a member of the Music Theory Society of NYS, the Monroe County School Music Association, and the NYS School Music Association.

Services are being planned for this coming summer.
