Creation of the School of Applied Sciences and Technologies

The introduction of a guided pathways model at MCC represents a significant investment by the Administration to proactively and positively impact student retention and completion. As you are aware, the inaugural pathways model has organized the College's academic programming around six Schools, each of which includes an associated School Specialist, Faculty Liaison, and a supervising Dean. As the six-School organizational structure has progressed in its development, Administration has decided there is benefit to students from the addition of a seventh School organized around the workforce-oriented pathways managed within the EDIWS Division. The idea is having them contained in a dedicated School that is fully aligned to the EDIWS leadership structure will offer greater fidelity to the College's organizational structure and student career goals in these particular fields.

The creation of a seventh School within the current guided pathways model will allow for the integration of EDIWS' labor-linking efforts and formal incorporation of non-credit to credit alignment through stackable credentials organized using career pathway modeling. Leveraging these efforts more formally within the overall Schools model can potentially benefit all Schools.

The EDIWS Division will be working over the coming weeks to define the details of what will become the School of Applied Sciences and Technologies within the current guided pathways model as implemented through the Schools at MCC. Our goal is to have this seventh School ready for launch for fall 2017. To accomplish this task, a task force of EDIWS leadership has been charged with defining the roles and details of this new School. More communication will be forthcoming as we further specify the details of the School of Applied Sciences and Technologies and how it will coordinate and communicate with the existing Schools leadership and processes.
