U.S. Department of Education Official, Chancellor to Visit MCC

MCC is pleased to welcome U.S. Department of Education Under Secretary Martha Kanter and Chancellor Zimpher to the Brighton Campus on Tuesday morning, Sept. 6, as the College hosts the Cradle-to-Career Networks: Pathway to Education Reform forum in the Warshof Conference Center of the Flynn Campus Center.

The forum, scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to noon, is focused on the SUNY collaborative
cradle-to-career” initiative. Under Secretary Kanter will speak on the importance of cradle-to-career networks and how they align with President Obama’s goal for the nation to produce an additional 5 million community college graduates by 2020. Chancellor Zimpher and Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges Johanna Duncan-Poitier, who also serves as the Chancellor’s Deputy for the Education Pipeline, will talk about the national Strive network, local efforts to launch a Strive initiative and SUNY’s education reform agenda.

President Kress will give welcoming remarks.

All are welcome to attend. Please RSVP to Carol Cascarano at <“mailto:ccascarano@monroecc.edu”>.

Among her responsibilities with the Department of Education, Under Secretary Kanter oversees policies and programs related to postsecondary education. Before joining the Obama administration, she had a longstanding connection to community colleges. From 2003 to 2009, she was chancellor of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District, a board member of the League for Innovation in the Community College. Prior to that, she served as president of De Anza College from 1993 until her appointment as chancellor.
