Curriculum Office Hosts Inaugural Community Event

In support of MCC’s commitment to bringing issues of diversity to the campus community, the Curriculum Office hosted a table of MCC representatives at the opening keynote address of the Frederick Douglass International Underground Railroad Conference at Rochester’s Riverside Convention Center last Friday.  Juan Williams, author and National Public Radio correspondent, spoke powerfully about the legacy of the American Civil Rights movement and visionary leadership exemplified by Douglass, Charles Hamilton Houston, Thurgood Marshall and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that brought significant changes to the country over the past 70 years. In addressing the challenges confronting communities today, Mr. Williams encouraged the Rochester community to identify individual passion and interests and to use them to make a difference in a one on one relationship to improve our community. Finally, he emphasized education as the primary strategy to transform lives today as it was going back to Douglass’ time.

The MCC contingent included General Counsel Diane Cecero, Dean Frank Rinehart, Dean Michael McDonough, Human Resources Director Alberta Lee, Professor Sumati Devadutt, Service-Learning Coordinator Susan Bender, Dean Stuart Blacklaw, Curriculum Director Charlotte Downing, and Assessment Coordinator Maureen Erickson.

At MCC we are focused on improving the quality of life of the individual and community.  As such, the Curriculum Office seeks opportunities to assist you in our strategic goal to integrate global perspectives into our academic programs.  Please contact us to work collaboratively with you to develop programs to meet the needs of a diverse community.
