Perez Appointed Chief of Public Safety

I am pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees of Monroe Community College approved the appointment of Mr. Melvin "Tony" Perez as Director of Public Safety at their August meeting. Chief Perez will begin to lead the College's Public Safety Department on September 5 and brings over 30 years of law enforcement experience to the College community. He most recently served as Director of Intelligence for the New York State Police supervising over 100 sworn and non-sworn members in the areas of Criminal Intelligence, Counter Terrorism, and Cyber Security, and has extensive experience implementing and utilizing technology for investigative purposes. Prior to that, he was the Executive Director of NYS Intelligence and Strategic Information Sharing where he oversaw four award winning state funded crime analysis centers and served as a member of the State Homeland Security Senior Advisory Board. Tony retired from the Rochester Police Department in 2008 holding ranks of Officer, Investigator, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Commander, and Deputy Chief. He oversaw CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Association) Accreditation for the Rochester Police Department and currently oversees the State's Policy Accreditation Program. Tony has considerable experience supervising the application and management of Federal, State, and County grants.

MCC and Monroe County will mutually benefit from Chief Perez's extensive experiences in law enforcement and leadership. Please join me in welcoming Chief Perez.
