Former MCC student starts dance festival at Wellesley

Alumna of MCC, Nora Mishanic, now a Wellesley student, has created the first Dance Festival at the Massachusetts college, and noted that she was inspired by former adjunct MCC ballet instructor Shannon McClatchey. Shannon created a dance showcase every semester for all her students to share their various backgrounds in dance, including Hip-Hop to Celtic to Arabian dance. Friends and family attended the final performance, and an informal reception was held afterwards for everyone to connect with others in the MCC dance community. It was inspiring and fun, and exemplified the spirit of what MCC strives for in its classes. Mishanic modeled the Wellesley dance festival after the MCC showcase that Shannon McClatchey had organized.

McClatchey's former students are now attending dance programs not only at Wellesley, but also the University of Utah's and Brockport's dance programs and are working in the Rochester Public School system teaching dance as well. McClatchey was dedicated to removing the elitist connotations often associated with ballet and promoting the importance of a strong technical foundation, with a love of all kinds of dance to propel students forward.
