Honor an MCC Colleague with a Seat in the New Theatre

The end of the academic year is a great time to honor or memorialize a fellow employee who has inspired you. Why not name a seat for them in the new MCC Theatre?

Steve Palmer, school specialist in the School of Business, Hospitality, and Entrepreneurism, recently named a seat in memory of Otis Young. Steve met Prof. Young when he was cast as the lead in MCC's production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which Prof. Young was directing. Steve shared how Prof. Young inspired him:

"Otis was one of those professors who knew what to say when you needed motivation. He could read people so well. The cast all knew that Otis had acted professionally, but we had no idea that he had stared in "The Last Detail" with Jack Nicholson and Randy Quaid, "The Hollywood Knights," an 80's cult classic, and "The Outcasts" on ABC in 1968-1969. He also appeared in "Hill Street Blues," as well as many more TV shows. Working with Otis Young on "A Funny Thing..." was one of the best memories I have of MCC. Otis brought in Al Borland, from the Admissions Office, and Ed Phoenix, Vice-President of Student Services, to allow us to work with college professionals and make connections that influenced us all. I even had the honor to act with Otis Young in the play "The Detective Story."

He was a beloved professor and influenced me to become the man I am today. I hope that his wife, Barbara, will be able to sit in his seat at next year's 19th Annual Otis Young Motivational Speak-off."

The MCC Foundation offers two simple and convenient options for naming your seat in the fabulous new Theatre. Use payroll deduction giving to make your pledge today!

  • Lower level seats: $10.42 per pay period ($10.42 x 48 pay periods = $500)
  • Upper level seats: $ 7.30 per pay period ($ 7.30 x 48 pay periods = $350)
  • Annual, semi-annual and quarterly billing is available for those who do not wish to use payroll deduction.

In recognition of your support, a plaque bearing your name, or the name of someone you choose to honor or memorialize, will adorn one of the theatre's seats for a minimum of 15 years.

The MCC Foundation is grateful for the generous donors who have named seats in the new MCC Theatre. Together, we have raised $18,950 to support the Visual and Performing Arts Department and its students. Thank you!
