Alumni Hall of Fame Inductee Sharon Kelly Sayers, Esq., ’72 Inspires Women and Families


Highly respected local attorney Sharon Kelly Sayers has 32 years experience in matrimonial law. She earned an associate degree in liberal arts at MCC while raising two children and taking night classes. After MCC, she earned a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice at Rochester Institute of Technology and a doctorate of jurisprudence from Buffalo Law School. She fulfilled her professional dream when she established her solo law practice in downtown Rochester to protect the legal rights of women, families and minorities. Sharon credits her professional success to her start at MCC and gives back to the college through her support of the MCC Foundation. 

Selected by the MCC Foundation’s Alumni Committee, Sharon will be inducted into the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame next Thursday evening , November 13 at the Salute to Excellence dinner. Sharon’s professional achievements also include serving as a member of the Task Force on Women in the Courts and as chair of the Family Law Section of the Monroe County Bar Association. She teaches a course in evidence for the Buffalo Law School.

Inspired by Gloria Steinem when she spoke at MCC in 1972,  Sharon joined the women’s movement and went on to become president of the Rochester Chapter of the National Organization for Women. She is also an original member of the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys, a member of the Matrimonial Practice Advisory Committee on Rules and Regulations, and a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She has been recognized in a variety of publications, including Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers.
