The Sixth Act Announces "Stage Violence: An Academic Workshop"

The Sixth Act, supported by the Creative Arts Committee, is pleased to announce its final academic workshop of the year, “Stage Violence,” on Thursday, March 6, from 4-5:30 p.m., in the Black Box Theater (Building 4). The event is free and open to the public, metered parking is available, and as usual light refreshments will be served.

The workshop itself will explore the various impulses behind staging violent acts in a theatrical performance, encouraging participants to ask difficult questions surrounding the ethical as well as artistic role that representing physical pain can play on stage. We will offer at least one scene and invite participants to share their most provocative thoughts as we work together towards some heightened understanding of the complex issues at stake when violence becomes the property of live art.

For more information or to receive a pre-workshop curriculum-planning packet, please contact Maria Brandt at 585-292-3394 or < "
